Burley Fires come from John Barson, who had developed an impressive twenty year career with two large electrical appliance manufacturers. John decided to branch out on his own and create the sought after brand Burley. Burley Fires was born in 1975 from John's garage. It took all day for John to build and assemble his first electric fire, which he then went on to sell the next day in Leicester.

The first of many turning points came when John Barson visited the electrical buyer at Harrods. He returned with an order for 12 fires, from that day on, there was no looking back. John took on his first employee and then found a bigger garage. Once John's Son and Daughter left education they also joined the family business.

The Burley Fires History

1981 Burley became the approved supplier to the Northwest Electricity Board. Within 3 years of becoming the approved supplier Burley supplied all 14 of the British Electricity Boards which was about 900 outlets.

1985 The export market, a new area for John developed. He began exporting his fires to other countries which went from strength to strength. Today Burley Fires exports to all major countries throughout the world.

1993 The next development for Burley Fires was the introduction of the Empingham model. This was the first of its kind and could be inset and freestanding. Today this has been adopted as an industry standard.

1998 In the 90´s Burley move into the gas appliance market. Burley Fires introduced the first flueless gas fire to be sold in the UK. The market for flueless gas fires continues to grow.

2002 The Barson family tradition continued with the appointment of John´s son Steve as Managing Director.

2005 Burley develops an innovative new range of electric fires featuring Sensa-Switch.
